Electronics Club

The Electronics Club meets regularly after school in the Science Lab. Enthusiastic students ranging from First to Sith yrs get hands on experience in the building of circuits and circuit boards. The students get a chance to solder components into a board and will be able to build a kit from start to finish. A very popular kit is the ipod amplifier. Other kits include the dice project, the buzzer for quizzes, the shed alarm and self programming kits whichcan be programmed via a laptop.

 Green Committee

Abbey Community College is proud to say that this year it has been awarded its second Green Flag award for litter and waste management. In order to do so, the cooperation of the whole school community – staff, students, and teachers is essential. Twenty five students have committed to enhancing the school environment of Abbey Community College. They have set up an enthusiastic Green School committee and a rota has been agreed to ‘pick up’ litter every day between 1.30pm and 2pm. Linking subject areas in the fight against litter is part of the committee’s plan e.g. CSPE plans to research information regarding waste segregation and management, and it is hoped to run an art competition through the various languages undertaken in the school to highlight the issue.

The First Year debating competition is underway. Senior debating students will run workshops for the classes and help them prepare. Classes will debate against each other to win the championship.
Well done to the Concern Team who performed brilliantly this year. Many Thanks to all the committee and team members for working so hard throughout the competition.

 Table Tennis

The Table Tennis Club meets every Tuesday at 1 pm. It is available to all First Years, the only requirement being that they must have runners and a table tennis bat.
